Club Member Spotlight for May: Steve Chiurco
From the beginning, Steve Chiurco has been an active member and contributor to Club Echelon. He writes: "It is so wonderful surrounding myself with like minded people with the same practices and goals. We are a strong group doing events for our own reasons but respecting and being there for one another. Having such a great group to train with makes it really fun and easy. We all push each other to go a little further or a little harder but all while keeping a smile on our face."
First Triathlon: Back in 2010 in Pacific Grove. It is also my favorite because of the life changing effect it had on me and the way I now live my life. My family participates as well so it has really changed all of our lives to have a more healthy and active routine.
Favorite piece of tri-gear: a split between my Orca Alpha wetsuit or my Cervelo P3 bike. Both are lightweight, fast and make me feel as if I'm not working as hard.
What motivates me : Definitely my family. Without their support I would be more difficult. But when I am either training or competing, I am always thinking of people who can't do this. I'm not talking about people who say they can't but people who for unfortunate reasons actually can't. So it makes me try even harder because I feel so fortunate to be lucky enough to do this.
Big goal: Ultimately get an Ironman tattoo. And that would be when I actually finish one. I am not a good runner so the thought of that distance run is really difficult but I get closer every time I finish.
